Hypnotic Hack: The Giveaway
* * *
I created this exercise as a way of determining how your subconscious experiences reciprocity in your varied relationships and to evaluate whether or not your relationships are a fair exchange, or if one of you is overgiving or overasking. You can use this simple three-minute technique any time, with anyone—either for present situations or to review the past.
1. Close your eyes and go within.
2. Imagine an array of valuable, fun, or sentimental/meaningful gifts. (You might imagine an elegant tie, a soft cashmere scarf or blanket, the latest iPhone or tablet. Perhaps the gifts are more personal—a handmade quilt, a collage of photos, an antique ring.)
3. See an altar overflowing with these gifts.
4. Call upon your SoulSpirit to bring a tone of reverence to the gathering of the gifts.
5. Make a mental list of the people you would ordinarily give a gift to: your spouse or significant other, close family members, friends, or colleagues—you choose, you make the list.
6. Imagine giving one of your prized gifts to each person on the list. Take your time so that you can fully imagine and then experience what it feels like to give the special gift.
This exercise enables you to see if you are giving purely or overgiving. What feeling did you experience giving the gift? If it wasn’t joy, then you might be overgiving to a person who has not shown enough reciprocity.
Gifts are meant to be pure. And when you give them, a warm feeling should arise within you immediately. Whether a gift is a thing or an action or sentiment—loyalty, friendship, time, honesty, a shoulder to cry on—giving anything of value should feel good and leave you with a feeling of satisfaction, acknowledgment, and grace.
This exercise also calls upon the subconscious and the SoulSpirit to work in unison. It asks the subconscious to imagine gifts that are personally meaningful to you and to envision on whom you’d like to bestow these gifts. You’re also communing with your SoulSpirit to imbue the scene and offering with reverence, by freely transferring your gift to another, bringing that person or persons joy.
You can do this exercise quickly and use it to hone your judgment skills as well as give to get. When you direct your energy toward another individual, the SoulSpirit will reflect back the purity of the gift.
